POEM - We in Ninety-Three

It seems like this was the year
Where the blur started
When we moved around
And tried to get settled
Tried to decide
What we wanted to be
Got used to
Living together
Fending for ourselves
Being adults
Realizing
            This was our new life
            There was no
            Going home to mom’s
            Having someone else
            Do laundry
            Wash dishes
            Fix dinner
            Pay bills

We bounced back
From a brief stint
In the desolation of Utah
To our Tempe roots
And worked insignificant jobs
Made mistakes
Had arguments
Made necessary adjustments
Changed directions
And changed again
And then again
Then ended up
After a long year
Together
